The formerly highest situated mine in Europe as a museum - 800 years of mining history become unique experience here. The Monteneve (Schneeberg) mine, the highest in Europe and the longest in operation in the Alpine area (approx. 800 years working silver, lead and zinc) has been turned into today’s mining museum. The numerous mining equipment on and in the massive mountains between the Ridanna (Ridnaun) and Passiria (Passeier) valleys are original any could still be operated today. The entire construction is a mine to touch, view and marvel at, to try, join, discover and experience.

The Regional Museum for hunting and
fishing at Wolfsthurn Castle

In the magnificent baroque-style Wolfsthurn castle you can visit various exhibitions in the following three storeys:

On the 1st floor you receive lots of information on
hunting and game , traditional hunting folk art and
fishing;
On the 2nd floor there is a round tour of the
pompous rooms of the castle with the original
furnishings, revealing the history of Wolfsthurn;

in the cellar, which has been especially created for children, our youngest visitors can gain a great deal of knowledge about animal voices and tracks, stags’ antlers and bears’ caves while they are playing.

Gilfenklamm ravine

The "Kaiser-Franz-Josef" ravine, as it was baptised 100 years ago, is the only ravine in the world deeply cut into pure white marble! The Racines stream forces its way spraying up between tower-high rock walls and thunders down into the valley through numerous waterfalls! An unforgettable experience for young and old!

Hiking time:		approx. 20 minutes to the entrance, then 45 minutes through the ravine or a round trip via Pratone (Pardaun) to Stanghe (Stange) (meadow path) and back through the ravine, there and back approx. 3 hours hiking time
Height difference:		175 m

Open from the beginning of May until the end of October

Knappenkapelle St. Magdalena

Built in 1480 by the Monteneve (Schneeberg) varlets
and equipped with a precious winged altar by Matthias
Stöberl, the Gothic mountain chapel is not only a
landscape gem but also a historical work of art within
the glaciered mountain scenery.

Visiting hours from May until October
Mondays from 4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Additionally in July and August on Fridays
from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
